I have a cunning plan.

During the week of 02 July to 08 July, I have taken a week of vacation.
Also, I know that Lesley is retired (from out-of-the-home work) and so
probably has some free time during the weekdays. My SOGP works
in the later afternoon, and so could join us for an early-ish lunch.

I am not available on 03 July Monday, nor probably the Tuesday 04
because we have out-of-town guests staying with us.

Would Wednesday 05 July 2006 be a good day for an early-ish
lunch?

I'm still hoping to hear from Jessie, and so I hope this might be an
option for her. What say you?

April.

It actually sounds like a plan falling together to me.

Should I wear a funny hat? a brightly coloured jacket? boots with pointy
toes?

All of the above, if you like. Or just carry a TP book, and we could too.
That's how we all recognised each other the first time. Now all we have to
decide is - where?

I'll bring a book. In all likelihood the relevance of the costume will
become evident when we meet. I'm mobile, and flexible as to where and
exact time to meet now that a day has been more or less agreed upon.
I've even penciled the event into my calendar.

Excellent!

(Shaw is again being a pain in the fundament - not even any e-mail
right now - nevermind news. And they think I'm likely to change to
their new phone service? Hah.)

May we aim for an 11:30 am start? This will allow my SOGP enough
sleep, but also mean we will be done the meal by the time he has to
leave for work.

Now then, where shall we go for luncheon? Some of us need to be
frugal, so Cafe du Soleil (1300 block) on Commercial Drive is an
option. My husband & I checked out the Vineyard on the corner 4th &
Vine (across the street from Capers). It's menu is standard late night
pub burgers and so on, but the food was good, reasonably priced, and
they had beer for those who would like some.
http://www.thevine-yard.com/

We have been to Steamworks (pretty good for beer selection, but their
food is kinda okay), and Cafe du Soleil, Aphrodite's Organic Cafe, and
Davie Village Cafe, just to give you some idea of the type of venue.

Lesley is in Dunbar area, I'm in the downtown eastside, and Jessie is
in Burnaby. I need to go to places that can be easily reached by
transit.

Doe anyone have any suggestions/preferences?

April.

Frugal works for me. I'll go with the preference of those who have
blazed the trail before me. The beer is irrelevant in my case, so if
there is a place with interesting food choices I'm up for that.

I'm in Mount Unpleasant ;-) but very mobile so location is not an issue
for me.

So long as it isn't a chain/franchise place like Wendy's or White Spot
or Ronnies (gak). I'm trying to broaden my horizons and try cool local
places. I may have done Cafe du Soleil a while back but I'm not sure.

Either of those sounds good, or there's Romeo's very close to the Vineyard -
Greek food and pizza, masses of good food and fairly reasonable. Fourth and
whatever is good for me, of course, but perhaps less good for everybody
else, so I'd be quite happy with Cafe du Soleil or the Davie Village Cafe.

Is it this one?

"Romeo's
This bright cafe near Vanier Park is a casual spot for dishes such as
Tuscan roasted vegetable sandwich with peppers, zucchini and eggplant
on homemade, whole-wheat sourdough bread.
Address: 1895 Cornwall Ave. Vancouver BC
1 604 732-8212"

I also found this information, and wondered if it is for the same place:

"***+ $$ Juliet's Adam is a romantic and warms to the idea that Romeo,
the owner, who declares he is working hard to earn his first million, had
changed the name of this honest place from Romeo's to Juliet's, in honour
of -- his little daughter. That kind of spirit is worthy of patronage. A
good selection of breakfasts, including French toast, granola parfait
with fresh fruit and yoghurt, and Pauline's hot oatmeal with raisins, and
several omelettes, Benedict and Florentine. Specialty lunch sandwiches
include roast chicken breast, roast lamb, sun-dried tomato with basil
and mozzarella, Tuscan roast veggies with feta, avocado and cream
cheese, tuna, egg and shrimp salads, and for a $1.50 supplement
smoked salmon and cream ($6.10) There is a small but charming
creeper shaded patio."

Sounds good.

What does everyone think?

April.

Juliet's Cafe is listed in the yellow pages at 1905 Cornwall. The phone
number is the same one you listed above. The description of the menu
you included sounds just fine to me.

I vote yes if everyone else is agreeable.

I don't think so... The place I'm thinking of does a good plain moussaka or
souvlaki type of thing in huge servings and relatively cheap - your basic
Greek restaurant. It's at 4th and Vine. Actually, it's probably more
expensive than the alternatives, so let's go with one of them.

It wasn't just me. A friend in Richmond had the same problem
